K. CCA.2- Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1).
1. Suggested Activity (beginner): Using a number line or a group of organized number flashcards point to a number and ask your child to "count on" or "count forward" from that number. 2. Suggested Activity (Approaching): Using flashcards 1 through 20 choose one flashcard, have your child say the number on the flashcard, ask your child to "count on" or "count forward." 3. Suggested Activity (for any level): Using IXL find your child's level on sections C, D, E. |
K. CCA. 3 Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).
1.Suggested Activity (beginner): Provide a group of objects 0 through 10 for your child. Ask your child to count the objects. Ask your child to write the number on rice, shaving cream, sand, etc. for fun! 2. Suggested activity (Approaching and mastered): Provide a group of objects 0 through 30 for your child. Ask your child to make groups of tens and count the objects. Ask your child to write the number on rice, shaving cream, sand, etc. for fun! |
Count to tell number of objects
K.CC.B.4- When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object. 1. Suggested Activity (beginner): Provide your child with a group of objects 0 through 10 ask him/her to count. As they count ask them to touch each item and say aloud the number s/he is counting. 2. Suggested activity (Approaching): Provide a group of objects 0 through 30 for your child. Ask your child to make groups of tens and count the objects. Ask your child to touch and count aloud the objects one at a time. 3. Suggested activity (masteres): Provide a group of objects 0 through 30 for your child. Ask your child to make groups of tens and count the objects. Ask your child to explain you the reasoning for the chosen number. Ask your child how you can change that number to a larger or smaller number. K.CC.B.4C- Understand that each successive number name refers to a quantity that is one larger.
1.Suggested Activity: Illustrated below using unifix cubes, but can also be accomplished using common household items like, coins, beans, large legos, etc... |
K.CC.B.4.B - Understand that the last number name said tells the number of objects counted. The number of objects is the same regardless of their arrangement or the order in which they were counted. 1. Suggested Activities: Practice the same activities as the previous standard (K.CC.B.4.) Then change the arrangement of objects (ex: spread them further apart or bring them closer together) ask your child to tell you how many objects are in the group this time and have them explain how they got their answer. K.CC.B.5 Count to answer "how many?" questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects.
1. Suggested activity: Use any of the the activities in K.CC.B.4/b. 2. Suggested activity: Use any of the the activities in K.CC.B.4/b adding flashcards. |
Compare Numbers
K.CC.C. 6- Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group, e.g., by using matching and counting strategies.
1.Suggested Activity (beginner): Provide your child with two groups of objects with different color or shape but not size (ex: triangles vs circles, coins vs buttons, blue candy vs red candy.) Ask your child to place one group in a linear arrangement and count. Then ask your child to place the other group in a linear arrangement below the first group. Ask your child to identify which line is longer? which group has more? which line is shorter? which row has less? Have your child respond using the following vocabulary: greater than, less than, or equal to .
2.Suggested Activity (approaching): Provide your child with two groups of objects with different color or shape but not size (ex: triangles vs circles, coins vs buttons, blue candy vs red candy.) Ask your child to sort and count each group. Ask your child to explain which group is greater, which group has less objects or if they are equal. Ask your child to respond using the following vocabulary: greater than, less than, or equal to .
2.Suggested Activity (mastered): Provide your child with two groups of objects with different attributes (size, color, shape, texture.) Ask your child to sort and count each group. Ask your child to explain which group is greater, which group has less objects or if they are equal. Ask your child to explain their strategy to solve the problem. Ask your child to respond using the following vocabulary: greater than, less than, or equal to .
