About Miss Elsie
" Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same."

My Philosophy
My goal is to educate the whole child according to their individual and developmental needs so then they can become life-long learner as well as make a positive contribution to society.
I am a close observer of my students so that I am aware of how they receive and process information. With students that come to school with different needs or issues, I act as their advocate and adapt instruction so that they can continue learning. As a communicator, I make certain that families are aware of what is happening in the classroom from week to week as well as how they can be a part of their child's education with a weekly newsletter and scheduled conferences. As theories and practices change, I, as a life-long learner, will keep abreast of that information by collaborating with fellow teachers, reading journals, participating in workshops, and taking classes.
I believe children are active learners. I invite students to construct their own learning through group interaction and discussion, independent and peer exploration, as well as through direct guided instruction. I believe young children need rules and guidelines in the classroom to promote order, respect and safety. The rules and guidelines as well as the consequences are established by the teacher. Students understand the positive results that come with following the rules or the negative results for violating them.
